Fomentalism and Unstable Truth
A thought that occurred to me following an appeal from the end.
And maybe I've talked about it a few times. The truth is precisely the attitude of truth and not stability. The assumption that we cannot achieve certainty about anything. Could it lead to postulates?
If all the conclusions we draw are, while they are reasonably likely to be true – such as the existence of God, the presence of Mount Sinai, the obligation to break commandments, and so on – they are not certain. Even the conclusions we draw that it is reasonable to assume that the values of modernity, in part, do not contradict the will of God – this is also a conclusion that is reasonably likely to be true but not certain.
And perhaps that is why the Fomandalist approach is much more fear of God – precisely because they admit that it is impossible to know what the will of the Holy One, blessed be He, is. We are left only with His commandments. And in order not to take any risks, we should simply observe the Halacha in its original form. Like a bathhouse, God forbid, we were mistaken. It turns out that we rebelled against what He said and the world was.
