Definition of the Soul
Question
Hello Rabbi… I wanted to ask: what is your definition of the soul?
Answer
I don’t have a definition. In Kabbalistic terminology, it is part of the spiritual whole within us (there are five components: nefesh, ruach, neshamah, chayah, yechidah).
The spiritual whole is something non-material that acts through us and by means of us, and it is what makes us individuals. It contains the will, thought, emotions, drives, and so on.
