I’m Interested in Your Reaction
Question
https://youtu.be/ifqE9FZ-uis 4:21 In your opinion, what causes educated young people to say this kind of nonsense?
Answer
I watched half of it, and I get the basic idea. I think people are divided into four groups along two axes: 1. Wisdom vs. stupidity (= emotionalism, meaning following one’s feelings while ignoring the objective situation). 2. Courage and intellectual honesty vs. the lack of them. The group made up of foolish people who do have honesty and courage is the group filmed and interviewed here. Their conclusions are completely foolish, but they do deserve appreciation for their courage and honesty. On the other hand, that is also more dangerous than foolish people who lack courage, because they have no influence and do no harm. This is the distinction between evaluating the person and evaluating the act, which I discussed in column 372.
