Q&A: Renting an Apartment with Girls
Renting an Apartment with Girls
Question
Hello Rabbi, I am a university student studying far from home, and I need to rent an apartment near where I study. The current option is to rent with two girls who keep the Sabbath and kosher, and it should be noted that right now it is very difficult to find another apartment with only boys, and even if there is one, it will most likely not observe the Sabbath and kosher. My question is whether, according to Jewish law, it is permitted to rent the apartment with them and, for example, give a key to a neighbor, or whether there is some other solution so that this would not be considered seclusion?
Answer
It would be preferable if there were another male there as well. It is hard to avoid seclusion over time. Giving a key to a neighbor does not help, because there is no reason for him to just come in to your place.
Discussion on Answer
There is no extra room in the apartment to add another boy. Should I give up this option?
I mean give up on moving into the apartment with the girls.
I think so.
What about drunkenness with girls?
