Q&A: Haredim
Haredim
Question
Hello Rabbi.
Lately I’ve been wondering about deeper things and wanted to know the Rabbi’s opinion on the subject.
We see that the Haredim are set apart from the rest of the population in almost every aspect(language, culture etc.), and not only in this country but throughout the world. The assumption among the general public is that all this difference comes from the Torah and Jewish law. I sat and thought that maybe actually Haredi society is a society whose essence is separatist and the Torah is just something they use for the sake of their separatism. That is, Torah study is not the cause of their separation from work or the army, but rather separatism itself is the reason for that, and if there were no Torah, they would use something else.
I’d be glad to hear the Rabbi’s response
Answer
It reminds me of those analytical yeshiva-style distinctions that insist on raising two sides when it’s obvious that one is correct and the other is absurd.
