Q&A: The Phenomenon of Leaving Religion in Religious Zionism
The Phenomenon of Leaving Religion in Religious Zionism
Question
Hello, Rabbi.
Today a very interesting article was published on the Srugim website:
http://www.srugim.co.il/165178-%D7%A1%D7%9B%D7%A0%D7%94-%D7%94%D7%AA%D7%95%D7%A4%D7%A2%D7%94-%D7%A9%D7%9E%D7%90%D7%99%D7%99%D7%9E%D7%AA-%D7%A2%D7%9C-%D7%94%D7%A6%D7%99%D7%95%D7%A0%D7%95%D7%AA-%D7%94%D7%93%D7%AA%D7%99%D7%AA
I would be glad to hear the Rabbi’s opinion about the article, and if the Rabbi agrees with it—whether he is doing anything to bring about a fundamental public change on this issue, beyond his excellent website.
Answer
Absolutely true. I’ve been saying this for years. When I proposed to various institutions that they train rabbis/teachers, they refused. When I suggested that they speak with the students or refer them to me, they didn’t respond. Most of them prefer to leave it to the rabbis/teachers, and it is hard for them to admit that those rabbis/teachers are incapable of dealing with the students. Usually the students are more educated than they are.
