Q&A: Legal Ruling on Gender Representation
Legal Ruling on Gender Representation
Question
Hello Rabbi,
Today the Supreme Court accepted the appeal of the “Kolech” organization against the district court’s decision not to require the Kol Barama station to pay compensation because of its policy of not employing female broadcasters at the station. This is a class action lawsuit for half a million shekels. a0
I would be glad to hear your opinion on the matter, if you have one.
All the best a0
Answer
I haven’t read the ruling, so it’s hard for me to express a legal opinion. On the substantive issue itself, I think it is entirely their right not to employ female broadcasters, and the public will decide whether it wants or needs such a station.
Discussion on Answer
If it is proven that he really believes that, it’s his right. But the burden of proof is on him. As for Kol Hai Radio, it is a clear fact that this is what they, and many of their listeners, believe.
What about a gas station that doesn’t employ religious people because the owner believes they bring bad luck?
