Everything Is Foreseen, Yet Freedom Is Given
Question
A nice little novel idea occurred to me. Surely someone has already thought of it before me, but if not…
“Everything is foreseen, yet freedom is given.”
Everything is foreseen — that is the rule. (God knows everything.)
Yet freedom is given — that is the exception to the rule. Meaning, He gives you permission to surprise Him (He does not know what you will choose).
What do you think?
Answer
Nice. As an interpretation of the Mishnah, that may be correct. As a claim about the world and about the Holy One, blessed be He, it seems to me completely correct.
