Q&A: Embarrassing a Nickname User (the typo is in the original)
Embarrassing a Nickname User (the typo is in the original)
Question
Hello Rabbi,
Is it permitted on this forum or another one to write something during an argument that could embarrass someone publicly (or make his keyboard shrivel up) when he writes under a pseudonym?
Answer
In my opinion, no, because he is still embarrassed. True, they discussed the question of embarrassment not in the presence of others (Maimonides, Laws of Personal Injury 5:7, and Tur/Shulchan Arukh, siman 420, סעיף 7, among others; and against them Tosafot, Ketubot 65b. Perhaps the dispute is only about liability for payment and not about the prohibition itself, and this requires further analysis), but it seems to me that here it is considered in the presence of others, especially since some people know who is behind the nickname.
