Q&A: Leavened Food
Leavened Food
Question
Hello Rabbi Michael Abraham.
I’ll be with my family over the holiday, and the problem is that they’re traditional but not especially careful about the laws of leavened food. In practice, this means that at the meal on the eve of this coming Passover, they’ll put on the table and eat pitas that they made in a tabun oven that was not properly kashered. They’ll even recite the blessing over the matzot they made. I spoke with them about this last year, and it didn’t help. How should I act?
Answer
Hello,
You’re not supposed to be dealing with the question of what they do. But as for yourself, eat only kosher things.
If this won’t provoke overly harsh reactions, maybe it would be better for you to be a guest at a Seder night that is conducted according to Jewish law.
