Does the Rabbi recommend Richard Taylor’s book “Metaphysics”?

Definitely yes. One of the most successful books for someone approaching the field of philosophy.
The chapter on the cosmological argument is well worth reading and appears here. But in my opinion he goes too far in applying the principle of sufficient reason when he infers determinism from it.
