Q&A: Sorting Rice Nowadays
Sorting Rice Nowadays
Question
Hello Rabbi!
For several years now I’ve been sorting rice before cooking it, but I’ve never found any insects in it (and neither have the other members of my household who sort it). Can one say that the reality today is that there is no need to sort it out (at least for the better brands)? After all, either we are not sorting properly, or there simply are no insects there (certainly not in an amount that would count as a “commonly occurring minority”). I’d be glad to hear the Rabbi’s opinion, and if the Rabbi knows of any articles on the subject I’d be happy to be referred to them.
Thank you very much!
Answer
I agree, although many claim that they do in fact find some. I’m not familiar with any articles, but I assume you can find some online.
There is rice from the Kitov company that is vacuum-packed and presumed clean.
