Q&A: Territories
Territories
Question
What does the Rabbi think about the opposition of the Arab residents of the Triangle to being included in land swaps? Is this hypocrisy on the part of those who support Palestinian nationalism? Or is this a more complex issue, where one can wave a Palestinian flag while at the same time opposing land swaps?
Answer
This is not hypocrisy but self-interest. They want to live in a more developed and democratic state, and perhaps also contribute to its destruction at some more distant point in the future. From their point of view, that is a logical approach. The hypocrisy is on the part of the left, which opposes this proposal in the name of Arab rights. In my view, it is a completely legitimate proposal, and even an obvious one.
Discussion on Answer
Self-interested.
Maybe the left, too, is just acting out of self-interest and not being hypocritical, because it also wants the elimination of the Jewish state in its current form.
In any case, it annoys me quite a bit.
