Religious Goals
Question
Hello and blessings,
I’m reading the trilogy, and several times in different contexts the Rabbi mentions the concept of the commandments’ “religious goals,” as distinct from moral goals or improving society, etc. What does that mean?
Answer
It seems to me that I explained it there. These are values that are not moral values. I call them religious goals. Preserving the holiness of the priesthood or of the Temple are not moral goals, but they are religious values. There are probably also goals that are unknown to us. If one assumes that the commandments have goals, and does not find goals in the realm of morality, it is natural to assume that there are goals of another kind.
