Question

Hi,
I want to raise a question about the Torah (the Five Books of Moses) and about the Talmud insofar as it relies on the Torah.
Suppose a person is a native Chinese speaker and does not understand any other language. Then he comes across an excellent translation of these works. Presumably, the translation, however successful it may be, prevents him—to some extent—from understanding and delving into them compared to someone who reads them in the original language.
The question is: is this linguistic obstacle essential, or only negligible? Because if it is negligible, one could perhaps say that this Chinese speaker can not only understand the works well, but even become an expert in them.
