Is there an obligation to continue family/community customs even if one thinks it is proper to change them?
The specific context is mourning practices connected to the destruction of the Temple that were expanded over the generations. If one thinks that with the Return to Zion and the establishment of the State, it is proper to reduce the mourning, since the exile has ended and all that is still lacking is the rebuilding of the Temple (and perhaps the Messiah), and that there is an element of ingratitude in continuing the mourning while ignoring the great good that God has done for us in recent generations, is it possible to cancel some of the customs and perhaps return to the law of the Talmud (for example, like the Yemenites)?
