Life After Death and Life Before Birth

Question

For dualists (like me), it’s fairly easy to think that there is life after death, even without any traditions about it (which don’t really exist).
A well-known topic — but what about life before birth? Is there any reasoning for distinguishing between life before birth and life after death?
Out of the four possible positions, I’ve only encountered three: no before and no after; yes before and yes after; no before and yes after. But I’ve never come across the fourth position — yes before and no after — and to me it actually sounds more plausible than the option of no before and yes after. Because the spontaneous creation of a soul seems to me a bit harder to accept than the dissipation of a soul when the vessels break.

Answer

I have no idea. I haven’t dealt with the subject, and it doesn’t really interest me. In itself it may be interesting, but I have no confidence that anyone actually knows anything about it.

The question itself — whether there is a before and/or an after — may indeed require engagement and interest and so on, but the comparison between before and after: why do you need to “deal with” the topic in order to think about that?
