Q&A: What will happen next with the Arabs in the country?
What will happen next with the Arabs in the country?
Question
I read that 600 families left Lod.
I’m sure that for Jews in other cities like Haifa, Acre, places in the Galilee, etc., it’s not pleasant either.
So bottom line—the state is being taken over by Arabs.
What will happen in another 5, 10, 20 years?
The Arabs will spread more and more and more, take over entire cities, entire neighborhoods in every single city.
And then there’ll be some kind of "trigger" or something, and there’ll be a civil war here from door to door?
And even if not—how can you live in a country where your neighbors secretly want you dead? And even if that’s not 100% certain, just the doubt—that maybe your neighbors want you under the ground—that too is something very, very significant.
To live is not to live with a feeling of fear and even discomfort 24 hours a day; that’s not life.
Answer
I read 400, and in my opinion even that is very exaggerated. People leave all the time and every year, and I don’t know how they arrived at that number that they attribute to the riots. You’d need to compare it to the number leaving in a typical year and take deviations from the average into account; only then maybe it would be possible to say something.
From Lod I can tell you that none of those I know lives here in fear. Don’t be impressed by descriptions in the newspapers or by tendentious descriptions from people trying to paint a picture that fits their agenda.
Your hysterical and apocalyptic description is really embarrassing (it’s part of that same tendentiousness in describing the situation and interpreting it). The Arabs cannot take over more places than their proportion in the population. At most there will be turnover in where people live.
I’m not saying the problem is being handled properly, or that there’s no need to address it. I’m only saying that everything has to be kept in proportion and there’s no need to become hysterical. The situation here was much worse in the past, and we got through it. I assume we’ll get through this too.
