Q&A: Kashering Pots on the Stove
Kashering Pots on the Stove
Question
Hello,
If there are pots that may have been non-kosher, can you simply clean them and put them on the stove over the highest heat for a certain amount of time instead of all the hassle with boiling water?
Thank you.
Answer
No. There are laws of kashering by boiling, and this needs to be done inside a vessel with boiling water.
Discussion on Answer
I wrote that there are laws of kashering by boiling. Part of those laws is that in pressing circumstances one may boil water in the pot itself, but simply heating the pot by itself is not effective. Beyond that, one can also heat the pot until it is whitened by fire (that is stronger than kashering by boiling), but that may ruin it.
In short, you need to study the laws of kashering by boiling, but other tricks are not effective.
Thanks for the answer.
But I didn’t understand—
in these two places, for example—

https://www.kipa.co.il/%D7%A9%D7%90%D7%9C-%D7%90%D7%AA-%D7%94%D7%A8%D7%91/%D7%9B%D7%9C%D7%99%D7%9D-%D7%98%D7%A8%D7%A3/
it says that you can use the stove, which of course is many, many times simpler and easier than dealing with boiling water.
I’m just trying to understand the issue…
