Q&A: A World Without God
A World Without God
Question
Hello Rabbi,
I’m at the end of the book The First Existent, and one of the ideas I’m taking from it is that if we rely on our senses and our power of reasoning, which seem to genuinely work and fit the world, that should lead to the conclusion that this is probably possible only because there is “someone” behind the scenes taking care of it.
Despite that, it’s impossible to ignore the fact that all atheists agree with the premises that we place trust in our senses and our intellect, and yet they still don’t immediately jump to the conclusion that there is a God. I wanted to ask—what do you think the world would look like without God?
Answer
It wouldn’t look like anything. Without God, there would be no world.
The world without God would look the way it looks nowadays.
Human beings invent divine commands for themselves.
