Q&A: What Will Happen If the Heat Keeps Rising and Rising and Rising
What Will Happen If the Heat Keeps Rising and Rising and Rising
Question
Hello,
I know there are many disputes about everything connected to climate change. But let’s assume that the world really is warming irreversibly, and for the sake of example let’s say that each year the global average rises by 0.4 degrees. Then in another 10 to 20 years it simply won’t be technically possible to live in most of the world, and from what I understand there will also be enormous changes in terms of the seas. So what exactly will billions of people do? Is it possible that before too long there will be an end of humanity as we know it (unless at some point in the future they find a way to bring the temperatures back down)?
Answer
Anything is possible. I am not a prophet, nor the son of a prophet.
Discussion on Answer
Any attempt to reduce a complex system to one parameter and try to make some kind of prediction is not serious.
I recommend reading the scenarios published by the IPCC and not just throwing out situations. (What if it went up by 20 degrees every year? There would also be a problem then. Just throwing out random numbers doesn’t help. If that’s what the IPCC writes, then it’s possible to discuss it.)
