Q&A: A Little Joke
A Little Joke
Question
Rabbi, forgive me, but I don’t actually have a question. I just remembered the joke you brought about how the next revolutionary will probably be an Orthodox Jewish orthopedist, and it got me thinking about how postmodernism suits people like that, who have to look at their feet in order to walk.
And joking aside, it seems to me he’s only half right, because the real problem will be solved by a Jewish optometrist—one who gets people to recognize the eyes of the (maybe use a little) mind. In other words, de facto, by renewing our days as of old through a Jew like Abraham our Forefather, who said: “Lift up your eyes on high and see: Who created these?”
Though weak knees are also a kind of leg problem.
Answer
There’s no need to take jokes too far. And one does not answer a homiletical quip.
