I’ll try to describe the situation to you, and I’d be very happy to hear your opinion.
So here’s the story: I’m in a film workshop, and our assignment was to shoot a scene of one character taking over another character’s space. One of the participants filmed herself sitting on a train, and then someone comes along (her boyfriend played that someone) and sits next to her, spreads his legs, and takes over her space. In response, she also spreads her legs and kind of “defeats” him. The thing is that she doesn’t spread her legs very wide at all, just a tiny bit, really only moving her leg slightly. The male instructor and I said that it didn’t look to us like taking over space, and the male instructor added that it looked more like romantic flirting. On the other hand, the female instructor said that to her it looked like it depended on “gendered eyes,” and that all women would agree with her that this was the woman’s victory. Do you believe there is such a thing as “gendered eyes”? Because at first glance it sounded like bullshit to me, but after thinking about it after the workshop, I thought maybe there is something to it. I’d be glad to hear your opinion.
