Q&A: Does the Rabbi also feel the terrible deterioration in the culture of public discourse in the country?
Does the Rabbi also feel the terrible deterioration in the culture of public discourse in the country?
Question
Everyone is shouting at everyone else and speaking in vulgar street language. There’s no sense of brotherhood, and it seems to me that this is because of Dudi Amsalem and Ben-Gvir and Shas and all their voters, who behave like animals and set us against one another and present Judaism in a primitive and crude way that makes you want to vomit. What is the solution to this situation? How do you stay optimistic in light of the terrible things that have been happening lately?
Answer
There is no connection between the language and the quality of the discourse. The question is whether substantive arguments are being raised, not how they are expressed. In that sense, the situation right now is much better than it has been until now. I’ll address this in my next column.
