Cooking on the Sabbath
Question
Hello, honorable Rabbi,
Let’s say I cooked meat separately and cooked garlic separately. On the Sabbath, may I place the meat on the hotplate with the garlic on top of it, assuming that this might enhance the flavor of the meat? Is that considered cooking?
Thank you for all that you do, and Sabbath peace.
Answer
I don’t think there is a problem with that. When discussing adding a spice to a cooked dish on the Sabbath, the discussion is about cooking the spice itself, not about improving the flavor of the dish. See, for example, here: https://halachayomit.co.il/he/Default.aspx?HalachaID=1628&PageIndex=64
