Q&A: Rosh Hashanah
Rosh Hashanah
Question
Hello Rabbi. Based on my familiarity with you, I remember that you deal less with topics like: "What is the essence of this or that holiday, and how should one prepare for the holiday," etc.
Even so, I would still be happy if the Rabbi could please give some advice on how to prepare for the awesome Day of Judgment.
And also to know: what exactly is our task on Rosh Hashanah?
And does the Rabbi know of any books that convey content about these days in a logical and rational way, so that there would be something good to learn from?
Thank you very much, Rabbi, for making your acquaintance since the beginning of 5783. I have learned a great deal from you, and I appreciate it very, very much. May you and your whole family be written and sealed for a good year.
Answer
I don't know that there is an awesome Day of Judgment here. It's a day of soul-searching. You can search here on the site for the columns I wrote about Rosh Hashanah.
Actually, it is acceptance of the yoke of Heaven (coronation of God as King), which precedes the soul-searching of the Days of Repentance.
