Shaving During the Counting of the Omer for Someone Who Is Suffering
Question
Hello Rabbi,
My beard really bothers me and sometimes it itches. Is there room to be lenient about shaving during the Counting of the Omer?
Regards,
Elad Buchris
Answer
This is a custom, and it should be treated as such. I don’t have a definitive answer. It depends on how much it bothers you, and only you know that. You also know how important these customs are to you. You have to decide on your own. There is room to be lenient, because various halakhic decisors have written that shaving is not included in the prohibition on haircuts, since a haircut is not an everyday matter like shaving, and therefore shaving is not something festive.
I understand, thank you Rabbi.
Happy Independence Day!
