This is a custom, and it should be treated as such. I don’t have a definitive answer. It depends on how much it bothers you, and only you know that. You also know how important these customs are to you. You have to decide on your own. There is room to be lenient, because various halakhic decisors have written that shaving is not included in the prohibition on haircuts, since a haircut is not an everyday matter like shaving, and therefore shaving is not something festive.
