Q&A: A Blessing Without Intention
A Blessing Without Intention
Question
What does the Rabbi think about this Sifrei passage:
a0
For the sake that He may bless you. And even though it came into his hand not intentionally, all the more so for one who does it intentionally. From here say: if a coin fell from his hand and a poor person found it and supported himself with it a0 behold, he is blessed on its account (Sifrei).

How can someone who didnt choose to do something receive reward or a blessing for what happened through him? It just happened to fall from him; he didnt decide to do it. And if were talking about a blessing that isnt necessarily connected to his choice, why should he receive it and not someone else? And if its because he merited it, then why not grant him that merit immediately instead of bringing a commandment to his hand and having him blessed through it?
Answer
It really isnt plausible. Theres an assumption here that some kind of automatic mechanism is at work. That doesnt seem right to me.
