I’ve come to the conclusion that Haredim are basically a religious dictatorship, just like political Islam. They have rabbis (who are run by political fixers) who dictate the public agenda, opinions, dress, etc. If you dare vote for another party you’ll be treated as abhorrent. The biggest proof is their opposition to the internet, as befits a respectable dictatorship like North Korea. The question is whether it is the state’s moral duty to dismantle all this filth and impose on them a clearly secular civic agenda.
Answer
There is such a dimension in the Haredi world. But the Haredim need to deal with it themselves. As long as they accept it, there is no justification for the state to intervene in their norms. Haredim always expect others to do the work for them. The Haredi rebels too want others to pull the chestnuts out of the fire for them.
