Q&A: Watching Women’s Sports
Watching Women’s Sports
Question
Hello Rabbi Michael Abraham,
Is it permitted to watch women’s sports, such as judo, running, jumping, swimming, and rhythmic gymnastics?
The clothing is immodest, but I know about myself that it does not lead me to sexual thoughts.
Answer
I don’t see any prohibition in this. Perhaps with rhythmic gymnastics there is room for discussion, but even there, if it does not lead to sexual thoughts, I don’t think it should be forbidden.
Discussion on Answer
First, I did not write that it is forbidden in any unequivocal way. Second, the proximity is completely different. And third, you have the option of doing it separately.
I think learning to swim in a mixed setting should be easier to permit. First, as Haim wrote, he is busy swimming and listening to the instructor, not watching women.
Second, learning to swim has practical value, unlike watching sports, which is only for entertainment.
Hello Rabbi,
please teach us, our rabbi.
I asked about a swimming course in a mixed pool, and you answered me that it is forbidden because there are women there who are not fully covered.
So why is it permitted to go and watch women in revealing clothing swim?
What is the difference between my question and this one?
