Q&A: The Good of My People or the Truth — Which Comes First?
The Good of My People or the Truth — Which Comes First?
Question
A person is sitting there needing to write a certain section of a report that assesses the future of the State of Israel, and it has an immediate effect on the credit rating.
There is the part of the hard data and dry facts, and there is the part that is more a matter of judgment and less sharp in terms of data, like political directions and the immediate and future likelihood of responsibility and sound judgment in all matters of governing the state.
To the best of my understanding and knowledge, this is heading in a problematic direction, and if I write that, it will be one of the components that affects our credit rating.
On the other hand, my commitment to my people and to the fighters does not let me write something that will make our situation even worse.
If there is no fair way to avoid the assignment, what would you advise doing?
Answer
Write the truth. A lie has no legs.
Discussion on Answer
How is a part that is “a matter of judgment and less sharp in terms of data” connected to truth and falsehood? Oh well, I hope whoever reads the report will be broad-minded enough to allow for several scenarios in the part that is “less sharp in terms of data.”
Yehoshua, our friend, where have you disappeared to for ages and ages?
There are things you don’t learn in homeschooling 😄
Read reports by credit-rating companies on countries,
and you’ll see that there are sections, and also weights assigned to numbers, that also involve an understanding of the human side.
That’s how these reports are built.
The spies also told the truth as they understood it, because a lie has no legs.
And they died…
