Q&A: Kamala Harris or Trump
Kamala Harris or Trump
Question
Just out of curiosity, who would you prefer to win the election in the United States? I’m especially interested in whom you’d prefer in the context of Israel.
Answer
If not for Israel, obviously Harris. Taking the Israeli interest into account—I don’t know.
Discussion on Answer
Apparently you missed a few minor points. Maybe you just need a change in your eyeglass prescription. So here are a few additions:
We’re talking about a crude beast, a chauvinist who serially harasses women, lies brazenly, violent, a pathetic populist, undermines the rules of the American system of government through violent force (the storming of the Capitol), inconsistent in every possible way; I think he doesn’t know how to spell the word “truth” (he’s never heard of it in his life). And above all, someone who gathers around himself even bigger beasts—racists, violent people, gun fanatics.
Kamala Harris is a reasonable, educated, and rational woman. I’d say civilized. She is even basically pro-Israel (like Biden). True, she is influenced by the radical fringes in her party (the progressives), and that is very regrettable. But Trump is not influenced by the beasts around him (the radical right); rather, he is one of them, and he influences them and leads them.
That’s why I wrote that regarding the attitude toward Israel I am conflicted, though even if and when the beast is elected, there’s no way to know what he’ll actually do. Even in his own statements we’ve already heard various problematic declarations, but there’s no knowing what will happen in practice.
So there you have it—it seems you really did miss some minor point after all.
I agree with you about almost everything you wrote regarding Trump’s personal flaws as a human being. I also referred to the events of January 6 and wrote that in a second term that matters less. What comes out of your words is that you’re afraid of the uncertainty that would come with Trump. You didn’t address substantively when things were better also in terms of American domestic policy—economy, security, even the status of minorities, especially Black people whose economic situation improved—and all the more so foreign policy, which brought the Abraham Accords and certainly produced a somewhat quieter world than today, especially regarding sanctions on Iran. Biden’s policy toward Israel was supportive, but with significant limitations, and Harris will surely support Israel even less, with a party that is much less pro-Israel than the Republicans. So you prefer someone more civilized, educated, and rational (civilized, yes; I don’t know how educated she really is, with an ideological worldview that I have no clear idea what exactly it is), but with a less pro-Israel policy. Again, I don’t know what you think about Biden’s domestic policy versus Trump’s. So we have a four-year track record of Trump that was the best ever for Israel, and that stands against a serious concern about a Democratic administration spiced with progressivism that is fairly antisemitic, and you think Trump’s uncertainty outweighs all that in Harris’s favor? True, the most ideal thing is a leader whom one can appreciate, respect, who is intelligent, honest, and has a clear ideological doctrine. But in my view, Trump, with all his flaws, led four years that were better for America and certainly for Israel than Biden did. The test of results seems to me more important than the test of personality.
Why is Harris obviously preferable? Do you think Biden’s 4 years were better for Americans than Trump’s term? Both in domestic policy and foreign policy? Clearly, on foreign policy Trump was much better regarding Iran, and the Abraham Accords meant a much quieter situation, which means less money from taxpayers going to wars. And on domestic policy too, it’s certainly debatable. True, the transfer of power was handled in a very problematic way, but that can’t happen this time. And if we add the Israeli interest, is there really any doubt who is better? Trump was probably the best president for Israel ever, and it’s obvious that Harris will have to deal with a radical left-wing force in the Democratic Party, even an antisemitic one. What am I missing that makes you see any doubt here?
