Modesty
Question
I’d be glad to ask a question regarding the issue of modesty. Why, from a moral standpoint, is immodesty (a swimsuit at the beach, or all the revealing clothing that has become part of the norm) not seen in secular society as problematic? How is there a real ignoring of a man’s natural desire when a woman walks in front of him in revealing clothing? If the man is single, then he can enjoy it, and then the problem of objectification and so on also comes in. Doesn’t this whole matter of liberalism and enlightenment eventually blow up in our faces one day?
Answer
In my opinion, this is brainwashing, partly as a protest against religious conservatism and restraint. I wrote about this in column 117.
