It’s not a fact. The question is what the appropriate punishment is—karet. What the Holy One, blessed be He, will actually do is a different matter. The same is true of the question whether X is a Torah-level prohibition (I don’t know why you latched specifically onto karet).

Correct, and that’s what the discussion is about. The determination of what is forbidden at the Torah level is also given only to the Torah, and still people discuss and argue about it.
But the determination of whether the appropriate punishment is karet is something given only to the Torah. The question is whether that is indeed what the Torah said. No?
