Choice
Question
I came across the following claim:
Given a choice, either there is a cause that produced it, or there isn’t.
If there is, then it is deterministic. And if there isn’t, then it is random (and I’m not really sure the concept of randomness even exists).
How can this be resolved? In my view, a person has constraints, judgment, desire, and things that influence the thinking process leading up to the choice. But the choice is still given over to him. I just don’t know how to explain that.
Answer
Well, I’ve answered this many times. There is begging the question here. See, for example, here: https://mikyab.net/posts/87006/
