Are the Hasidic movement, and on the other side the Vilna Gaon, the result of a reaction to the collapsed Sabbatean movement? Did both movements take the teachings of the hidden dimension of Torah, especially Lurianic Kabbalah, and interpret them differently? The Baal Shem Tov found a shorter way to connect to the Creator through genuine intention of the heart (of course I am greatly compressing his teaching), whereas the Vilna Gaon simply disagreed with the Ari and founded his own esoteric doctrine, while above all exalting the study of the revealed dimension, which led to the establishment of the great yeshivot that neglected the hidden teachings. Is this claim well-founded?
