Q&A: Marriage, Chapter 2
Marriage, Chapter 2
Question
Hello, I’m divorced with 2 children. I have a partner who is also divorced with 5 children. We are religious in every respect, and we want to live in holiness, but we don’t want to get married. We’ve already been there and we don’t want to go through the Rabbinate. What can be done? How can we live together without marriage? We also have a child together, and we have enough mess from our first marriages.
What matters to me is only the Creator—that I should be alright with Him, not with the institution.
I would be glad for advice, and also for a conversation. How can I reach the Rabbi?
Answer
It is possible to marry according to the law of Moses and Israel without going through the Rabbinate. Contact the organizations Chuppot or Mavoi Satum; their details are online. Living without a wedding canopy and kiddushin is a sin, and someone to whom Jewish law and the Torah are important should perform kiddushin properly according to Jewish law.
