Question

I watched the debate with Aviv about free choice, and I had to ask what you think about this view and whether you’ve considered it:
In the debate you argued that we are not machines, but I want to argue that we are, and to present consciousness as something different from what you describe. First of all, it isn’t a soul, but consciousness. In this definition, we remove everything that is not correct about the “thing” and leave only the experience itself, which is the only thing that exists. So the brain has a special property—maybe fundamental to reality, maybe originating only in the brain—that causes the brain to experience parts of itself. That way one can understand that consciousness does not make “choices,” because by definition it is spiritual! It changes the functioning of the brain by the fact that it “experiences” itself.
In other words, it kind of receives experiential “feedback” after it itself produced the experience that was reflected in consciousness and returned to it.
In my view, that makes it easy to explain and combine determinism with consciousness.
Another point would be that the “I” does not really exist, but that feeling too is reflected in consciousness.
