Q&A: Selling Leavened Food — Does the Wife’s Approval Need to Be Obtained?
Selling Leavened Food — Does the Wife’s Approval Need to Be Obtained?
Question
I sold the leavened food online through the Tzohar organization.
I entered my name and my wife's name on the form,
but only afterward did I ask my wife whether she approved my selling our leavened food. Of course she approved.
It’s clear to me that after the fact the leavened food is considered sold, because from the outset she allows me to handle these kinds of matters even without her explicit approval.
But ideally, from a halakhic perspective, would it have been proper to ask her permission, or is “his wife is like his own body” applicable here, so that in matters like this one can sign on behalf of both spouses?
Answer
If you know that it is acceptable to her, there is no need to ask.
