Q&A: Psychological Problems in the Conservative Approach
Psychological Problems in the Conservative Approach
Question
Hello and blessings!
A few days ago I spoke with a friend. He said he’s afraid to start dealing with his world of faith, because it would very quickly lead him to dismiss a great many of the things he has learned in his life and in the religious outlook he has known until now. I have to admit that unfortunately he probably thought this because of me.
Of course he’s right: the Dunning-Kruger effect causes people who understand just a little to think they’re kings of the world. But of course that doesn’t contradict the fact that one still has to clarify the truth.
And even so, although I know you hold the approach of “take a pill if it’s hard” and “I talk about what is true, not about what is useful,” I’d be glad to hear what you think the psychological problems might be that exist in a conservative approach.
Answer
As you wrote, I “hold the approach of ‘take a pill if it’s hard’ and ‘I talk about what is true and not about what is useful.’”
