If you were offered the position of head of an advanced yeshiva—giving a general lecture once a week at the highest level possible—would you agree?
A Haredi yeshiva, a Religious Zionist yeshiva, a “Third Path” yeshiva. And what about being head of the Sanhedrin? Rabbi Adin Even-Israel, as I understand it, considered that positively. Would you seriously consider serving as head of the Sanhedrin?
Answer
All of that depends on the composition of the Sanhedrin (“the clear-minded people of Jerusalem would examine who was sitting with them at a meal”). And it also depends on which yeshiva is being discussed.
In general, I don’t think I have enough knowledge to sit on the Sanhedrin. True, nowadays the weight of sheer knowledge has greatly diminished because there are information databases and so on, but still…
You could split the roles: put the Michan Bot as head of the Sanhedrin and human Michi as rosh yeshiva.
