As long as it lasts

Hello Rabbi,

I met today at a family event with my Haredi relatives, and as expected, the explosive topic of the draft issue came up on the table.
Among other things, one of their claims was that they simply listen to the words of their rabbis, and carry out "and do whatever they tell you," and those who do not listen to them are the ones who are problematic.

The question becomes more acute in light of the fact that many national religious leaders rule on halacha, such as Rabbi Ovadia , zt"l, and Gersh"z Auerbach, zt"l , and if so, the Haredi asked me, why suddenly don't you rule on this like them who said not to recruit yeshiva students?

What do you think can be said in response to this claim? Even if they have a problem or lack of understanding in the words of their rabbis, the Sages demanded, "They even tell you about the right that is left and about the left that is right," and "Who am I, the little one, to disagree with them ?! " (as the Haredi says).

I ask this as a religious person who also sees value in hearing the voices of great Torah rabbis who have dedicated their lives and invested their entire lives in studying Torah, because in my understanding this is the foundation of the oral Torah and the transmission of tradition from generation to generation .

I would be grateful if you could please add references from the G.M. and sources to your answer so that it would also be suitable for Haredi ears.

thanks

Sorry I missed this question.
Personally, I do not support listening to the great Torah scholars, even in Halacha. Those who are not very knowledgeable, of course, should choose their own rabbi. There is no need to say that "as much as they teach" was said about the Sanhedrin, and this is a formal and not substantive authority (not that they are always right, but that there is an obligation to obey them. But the rabbis of our time have no such obligation, especially when they are clearly wrong). The sermon on the right being left is one version. As is known, there is a disagreement on this between the Jerusalemite and the Sefra, who insist on the right being right. And all of this depends on the issue of the parentage of the one who errs in the mitzvah of listening to the words of the sages. And in the everyday ita, "If God had said Joshua ben Nun, I would not have obeyed him." Therefore, it is clear that there is no obligation to obey a sage who teaches on the left being right, certainly if he is not a Sanhedrin.

But even the bizarre method that applies here "as much as you please" is not a matter of halakha, and therefore relying on the opinions of Torah luminaries has no binding force. And yet, the words of great people have weight. The question is who are great people and where is their greatness. When someone is an expert in halakha, it really does not mean that he speaks with taste in other fields. Our eyes see that not.
Everyone knows that these rabbis are manipulated by businessmen and severe social pressures, and they operate within a distorted society that their attempt to save causes them to issue such distorted instructions. Sometimes such statements come from themselves (when they speak in secret and allow themselves minimal honesty). None of this prevents the Haredim from explaining (and sometimes even thinking for themselves) that there is an obligation to obey them and that all their words are in the Holy Spirit and that they are not wrong.
Our sages have already written that a scholar who does not have a good conscience is a scoundrel. And where there is blasphemy, one does not honor the rabbi. And if there is a place where there is blasphemy, it is this place.
But I have no interest in adding sources because sources really don't interest me in these matters. Anyone with minimal critical thinking understands this easily, and anyone without – no sources will help them.
