Emotions in the brain
Hello Rabbi,
You've talked a lot about how neuroscience is trying to show that there really is no free will for humans. But I don't remember your opinion on the neuroscience argument that our emotions are just hormones in the brain. Do you think that the chemical states in the brain are what cause emotions and feelings?
So, it seems to me that much of what we think is human and real about us is just a chemical thing that can be changed with a pill or surgery, and that makes our feelings meaningless.

I have elaborated on this in my books on the science of freedom. It is clear that the body has an effect on the mind and vice versa. So what? Even when I have a wound (physical) it creates pain (a mental feeling). You don't need neuroscience for that. Sometimes the mind uses the body to create the mental states and sometimes it is really acted upon by the body. And in general, emotions are in no way related to will and certainly not to free will.
