Empirical Sage Method?

שו"תEmpirical Sage Method?

peace!
Somewhere on this site, I saw that you wrote that the Sages (Hagam) took the approach that was common in their time. They did not test their theories empirically.
I wanted to point out that Rabbi Inbal's book 'Torah Sheba'al Feh' took the time to prove (p. 458 onwards) that the method of the Sages was observation, and not Aristotelian.
Dr. David Margaliot, in his book The Sages of Israel as Doctors, page 27, wrote: "Unlike the Greek sages, the Sages based their knowledge on experiments."
And look at Inbal's words and his sources at length.

Hello. Steinberg and Mordechai Halperin also write this way. And it is still clear that the sages were part of the landscape of the period and did not scruple about surveys and empirical testing where things were clear to them from explanation. Only when they did not know something and wanted to test it did they sometimes use an empirical method. But of course it was not only the sages; Aristotle also conducted his own experiments. Therefore, even though I have not read Inbal's words, I think my words stand.
