Problems about the Talmud

שו"תProblems about the Talmud
שאל לפני 3 שנים

Rabbi, I know you get these types of questions a lot, but I would still appreciate an answer based on personal reflections.
1) Rabbi, where does the authority of the sages come from? I heard that the verse "for it will be a wonder" speaks about between a person and his fellow man, not about halachic problems.
2) How was the Mishnah created and why does the Gemara interpret it and try to delve into their opinions and where does the authority of the Sages or the Mishnah come from? Perhaps there were problems along the way and perhaps the external books are correct.
3) Suppose I turn to a reader who believes that one way or another of halachic authority is needed to establish halachic law and commandments, and it is impossible to understand this from the written Torah as it is, but he says that whether the Gemara is cited or not, these are external books. What do I tell him?

I have answered this many times on this site.
  1. Not true. It is written between law and law, between injury and injury. Beyond that, if the Sages interpreted it this way, then the same interpretation is binding on the law. It is true that they establish their own authority, but that is how it is in any hierarchical system. The top always determines its own powers.
  2. From the one who took it upon themselves.
  3. Nothing. I don't know what to say to someone who doesn't accept the Toshbap.
