The influence of intentions on the moral judgment of actions
Hello Rabbi,
Does and how do you think intention in action x affects her moral judgment?
In different cases, the intuition is different. Let's say in case A: a person saves another person from death despite wanting him dead (let's say, for example, that the rescuer is politically competing with the survivor's son and simply wants to prevent the son from inheriting). The action seems morally appropriate. On the other hand, case B: a war bombing that results in the deaths of innocent people, alongside terrorists. There seems to be a difference in the morality of the action whether the intention was to eliminate the terrorists (and the death of the innocent is just a by-product), or whether the intention was the death of innocent people.
Thanks in advance.
