The Torah as a Constitution
Hello Rabbi,
Correct me if I'm wrong, I think the rabbi sees the Torah like the constitution found in the world today, in its basic form it is structured in a vague manner with definitive statements regarding certain issues in order to create the possibility of interpretation over the years and various periods to come.
Assuming you agree, I have a big problem with the Gemara. When I study it and they cite it as evidence for their sermons, you look at the source and in most cases the source has nothing to do with what they are learning from it. It's a completely different subject and I can't understand how they rape the verses so blatantly to enable their interpretation.
What are the limits? What are the rules for this?
