Q&A: Honoring Parents
Honoring Parents
Question
I use social media to market and advertise my business.
Recently I’ve felt a strong desire to put myself out there more, and through that increase the marketing and people’s connection to me, which would hopefully also increase my livelihood.
The problem is that my parents are completely against it.
They strongly object and are not willing to hear about it.
From their perspective, I am greatly embarrassing them. (It is important to note that both of them have smartphones and are connected to social media, and the issue of exposure is a stringency they decided is the line…)
I wanted to know whether, if I do put myself out there anyway—of course only in strictly professional matters—I would be violating the commandment of honoring parents, and how you would recommend I act in this kind of situation?
Answer
If this is important to you, there is no obligation to refrain from it.
