Q&A: Your Opinion
Your Opinion
Question
I saw in the past that you said there is no halakhic obligation whatsoever to wear a kippah.
So why do you wear one?
If your son stopped wearing a kippah (but did not become non-religious), would that not bother you, since it is not really a halakhic obligation and even causes division within the Jewish people?
Maybe it is preferable not to wear a kippah, because if it is just a custom or fashion that causes division among the Jewish people, the harm outweighs the benefit.
Answer
There are various customs beyond strict Jewish law. That is why I wear a kippah, and therefore it would definitely bother me. And division within the Jewish people is a blessing in this context, since it distinguishes between those who observe Torah and commandments and those who do not. There is no reason at all to be similar to them.
