Q&A: Question about the controversy over the "Safed Get"
Question about the controversy over the "Safed Get"
Question
Hello Rabbi
I wanted to ask whether the gathering of the judges convened by the Sephardic Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, may he live long, to discuss annulling the get given by the Safed religious court—which caused a public uproar and controversy—is a standard and reasonable procedure, or whether this is a puzzling move that is generally not accepted.
I am asking because I know it is stated in the Shulchan Arukh that there is a ban of Rabbenu Tam not to cast aspersions on a get after it has already been given
Answer
If you read article A, then you surely saw that this is an unusual move. Every report about it says so. But the ruling itself is also very puzzling and highly unusual, and in my opinion there is definitely room for such a move.
